All About the ETEGL

An Introduction to ETE AND THE ETEGL

The ETEGL is the regional chapter of ETE. We are a Detroit-area-based chapter of European Train Enthusiasts, chartered to educate the public about European trains and railroads.  Our members are located across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.

Approximately one half our members participate in Our modular layout group which builds, maintains and exhibits an HO scale model train layout featuring European trains and scenery.  We exhibit the layout at train shows and public venues between four and six times a year.

OUR OBJECTIVES
ETE's and the ETEGL's aim is to foster interest in European railways by:
  • Gathering, translating, and preserving pertinent information on European railway systems
  • Detailing the recreational and social benefits of European rail travel
  • Documenting the range of scale models of European railway equipment and line side facilities past, present, and future
Both ETE and the ETEGL have been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This means your qualifying donations and gifts to ETE are tax deductible.

JOINING The ETE/ETEGL
By joining the ETEGL you automatically become a member in ETE.  Membership is open to all who have an interest in European rail systems, whether model or full size. As a Regular Member you will receive two quarterly journals, the  ETE Express and Gleis 1, both of which are full of railway histories, modeler how-tos, prototype news, and local events and happenings.

You can also communicate and share interests with other ETE Members through the Internet. Both ETE and the ETEGL operate online email discussion forums for our members through which many questions have been answered and many friendships have been forged.

"ETE reflects the broad and diverse interests of its members and the communities it servers. Among the rail fans you will find amateur historians, travel enthusiasts, and preservationists. For modelers, virtually every scale, gauge, and control system (DC, AC, and DCC) is represented. ETE also maintains a modular standard for European HO scale (DC and AC) and N-scale and many chapters include well-established Module Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that build and operate transportable display layouts."
